Town Clerk

The town clerk records, preserves, and certifies most of the town’s public records, including maps, mortgages, liens, tax records, and records of land transactions. The clerk also issues dog licenses, marriage licenses, and fish & game licenses. The commissioner of the Department of Motor Vehicles may also authorize town clerks to renew motor vehicle, snowmobile, and/or motorboat registrations. The town clerk is a voting member of the board of civil authority, serves as the presiding officer at all polling places, and certifies the town’s grand list. In their position on the board of civil authority, clerks maintain registered voter checklists and hear property tax assessment appeals.
